This series of paintings explores the rich and romantic imagery linked with the Oklahoma landscape. Both visual and verbal romanticism is rife in all things Oklahoma, ‘Green Country’, ‘Red Dirt’, ‘Waving wheat’ and so on. But what is the state of this imagery today? Over the past year I have attempted to rebuild a narrative of contemporary Oklahoma, by erasing all traditional labels and focusing on a reductivist imagery to translate the familiar into the new. Traveling to the panhandle and back my goal was to study and truly see the landscape of northern Oklahoma in a fresh way, to discover what landscape means to the viewer and the painter.
